Pengertian Report Text
Report text adalah sebuah teks yang menghadirkan informasi tentang suatu hal secara apa adanya. Genre atau jenis teks ini memang ada kesamaan dengan descriptive text yaitu, baik descriptive text dan report text sama sama memberikan gambaran secara langsung tentang seseorang atau suatu benda1. Namun, report text berbeda dengan descriptive text karena report text memberikan informasi umum tentang sesuatu berdasarkan penelitian2, sedangkan descriptive text memberikan deskripsi spesifik tentang sesuatu berdasarkan opini penulis3.
Tujuan dari report text adalah untuk menginformasikan fungsi khusus atau informasi detail suatu objek2, atau dalam bahasa Inggris, the purpose of report text is to inform about certain functions of a participant. Selain itu, report text juga merupakan bentuk teks yang berisi penjelasan detail ilmiah tentang suatu objek3.
Struktur Report Text
Report text memiliki struktur tersendiri yang terdiri dari dua bagian utama, yaitu:
- General Classification: Bagian ini berisi pengelompokan umum dari objek yang dibahas. Bagian ini biasanya berisi informasi dasar dari objek tersebut, seperti nama ilmiah, jenis makanan, habitat, dan ciri khas dari objek tersebut3.
- Description: Bagian ini berisi penjelasan rinci tentang objek yang dibahas, seperti bagian-bagian, kualitas, kebiasaan, atau perilaku dari objek tersebut3. Bagian ini bisa terdiri dari beberapa paragraf tergantung pada jumlah informasi yang ingin disampaikan.
Ciri Bahasa Report Text
Report text menggunakan bahasa yang bersifat faktual, objektif, dan ilmiah. Beberapa ciri bahasa yang digunakan dalam report text adalah:
- Menggunakan simple present tense untuk menyatakan fakta umum atau kebenaran ilmiah2.
- Menggunakan kata benda umum (common nouns) atau kata benda khusus (proper nouns) untuk menyebutkan objek yang dibahas2.
- Menggunakan kata sifat (adjectives) untuk memberikan deskripsi tentang objek yang dibahas2.
- Menggunakan kata hubung (conjunctions) untuk menghubungkan informasi yang berkaitan2.
- Menggunakan kalimat pasif (passive voice) jika subjek tidak penting atau tidak diketahui2.

Komodo
Komodo is the largest living lizard in the world. It belongs to the family of monitor lizards. It is also known as the Komodo dragon or Komodo monitor. It lives in some islands of Indonesia, such as Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang. It is a rare and endangered species.
Komodo can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh up to 150 kilograms. It has a long tail, strong legs, sharp claws, and serrated teeth. It has a gray or brown scaly skin and a forked tongue. It can see well in the day but not at night. It can hear well but it has a poor sense of smell.
Komodo is a carnivore and a scavenger. It feeds on various animals, such as deer, pigs, goats, horses, water buffalo, and sometimes humans. It can also eat smaller komodos or its own eggs. It has a venomous bite that can cause bleeding, infection, and death to its prey. It can swallow large chunks of meat and bones. It can eat up to 80 percent of its body weight in one meal.
Komodo is a solitary animal and only meets other komodos during mating season. The female komodo lays about 15 to 30 eggs in a nest made of dirt or vegetation. The eggs hatch after seven to eight months. The baby komodos are vulnerable to predators and sometimes cannibalism. They live on trees until they are big enough to defend themselves.
Komodo is an amazing animal that has survived for millions of years. It is a symbol of Indonesia’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage. It is protected by law and by the Komodo National Park. It is also listed as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
