Opinions and Compliments: Language Features

Dalam berkomunikasi dengan orang lain, kita seringkali perlu menyampaikan pendapat atau memberi pujian. Bagaimana cara yang tepat untuk melakukan hal itu dalam bahasa Inggris? Artikel ini akan membahas beberapa fitur bahasa yang dapat digunakan untuk asking and giving opinion, serta expressing and responding to compliments.

Asking and Giving Opinion

Asking opinion berarti meminta pendapat atau saran dari orang lain tentang suatu hal. Giving opinion berarti memberikan pendapat atau saran kepada orang lain tentang suatu hal. Berikut adalah beberapa contoh ekspresi yang dapat digunakan untuk asking and giving opinion:

  • Asking opinion:
    • What do you think of …?
    • How do you feel about …?
    • What is your opinion on …?
    • Do you have any suggestions for …?
    • Do you agree with …?
  • Giving opinion:
    • I think that …
    • I feel that …
    • In my opinion, …
    • I suggest that …

Contoh dialog:

Expressing and Responding to Compliments

Expressing compliments berarti memberikan pujian atau penghargaan kepada orang lain atas sesuatu yang mereka lakukan atau miliki. Responding to compliments berarti menanggapi pujian atau penghargaan yang diberikan oleh orang lain. Berikut adalah beberapa contoh ekspresi yang dapat digunakan untuk expressing and responding to compliments:

  • Expressing compliments:
    • You look … (beautiful, handsome, gorgeous, etc.)
    • You are … (smart, talented, kind, etc.)
    • You have … (a great sense of humor, a lovely voice, a nice smile, etc.)
    • You did … (a great job, a wonderful presentation, a fantastic performance, etc.)
    • I like … (your style, your idea, your attitude, etc.)
  • Responding to compliments:
    • Thank you. (simple and polite)
    • Thank you, you are too kind. (showing appreciation)
    • Thank you, I appreciate it. (showing gratitude)
    • Thank you, but I don’t think so. (being modest)
    • Thank you, but you are … (returning the compliment)

Contoh dialog:

A: You look beautiful today2

B: Thank you, you are too kind2

A: You are very smart2

B: Thank you, I appreciate it2

A: You have a lovely voice2

B: Thank you, but I don’t think so2

A: You did a great job on the report2

B: Thank you, but you are the one who helped me a lot2

A: I like your idea for the project2

B: Thank you, I like your idea too2
